The DemiMonde Winter A Novel The DemiMonde Saga eBook Rod Rees
Ah, I have my summer read! Much has been done with futuristic cyber thrillers but none has blurred the lines of the digital and biological worlds like this one! The author nails it in a thoroughly entertaining romp through the interstices of DNA and Data with new and old despicable characters playing out parts both programmed and not. The Demi-Monde is an encapsulated virtual Earth with the worst of behaviors sporting their own Tribes and rituals. Familiar ground is covered here with twisted plots and new clothes towards a larger thing unfolding, always keeping you slightly off balance. There is the action but what I've found fascinating is the Swiftian like satire of human behavior and word play Rod uses to parse it all out. Despite the dark dystopian landscape of humanunkind, I've found myself at times acknowledging the tragi-comedy of human history as Ella travels within the Demi-Monde to save the world. I thank Rod Rees who has the impressive resume to go along with some damn good writing, for an imaginative reprieve in a hot and busy summer! The DemiMonde Winter A Novel The DemiMonde Saga eBook Rod Rees Reviews
I can see this turned into a television series, an a very good one at that. Think sci fi, history, and religion all wrapped in one.
Stumbled across this book and boy am I glad I did. Couldn't put it down until I had to recharge the as the battery was down to 15%. Hahahaha very inventive plot and good characters. Will definitely buy the next book.
Really enjoyed this series. Clever ideas and well written. Recommended.
Just finished this book and it was absolutely amazing! Combine, Tad WIlliams' Otherland, with Harry Turtledove's WWII alternate history, and Katherine Kurtz' Lamas Night, add a bit of steampunk, and you end with this this first volume in what promises to be an amazing series.
The concept was quite original and very creative. Fascinating mix of characters and a unique plot line. It was dark exciting and suspenseful.I certainly would recommend it.
I thoroughly enjoyed the creative genius of creating a "new world" that used so many familiar names from history. I found the author's writing style enjoyable, especially the use of seldom used vocabulary that really set the mood as I delved ever deeper into the Demi-Monde! I'm looking forward to reading The Shadow Wars.
I was lucky enough to be able to get this book was it was free. It is very long book with a lot of detail but it is nice to get more information about the Demi-Monde the further you go.
I really liked the main character and her relationship with her favorite "dupe." I found it hard like her to think that this was just a virtual reality and not just a fiction book. It was nice that the characters thought about the "real world" every so often so that I, the reader, could remember that this was not the usual for them. That they were shocked by this "world" as I was.
I am slightly confused towards the end and how things could happen the way the Great Leader wanted them to work. I really want to read the next one but have so many other books to read right now. The ending definitely left you hanging, almost too much if you ask me. Didn't conclude any story arches really.
However a nice read about a different type of world of hate and craziness!
