Byronic Sandi Beth Jones Books Reviews
Byronic is actually a pretty interesting with it's kind of dark and mysterious theme. I forgot that this genre had a supernatural theme to it because the beginning was pretty normal but then the story starts to really pick up with the weird things going on around.
The mysteries that Chelsea's experiencing and of course there's the mysterious Geoff. The relationship between Chelsea and Geoff was kind of complex and don't get me started with their parents' relationship.
Chelsea like her father is into arts but her art seems to be on a different level because she drew things that aren't possible (like the boohags and things she has never seen before). She also thought that she's like her father who seemed to be from the loony bin but then there are things that are happening around that can't be explained and she knows that Geoff's the only person she confide in.
Her relationship with Geoff started off the wrong foot but later you can see their relationship developing quickly. I won't go into details about that because that would spoil it. Chelsea also was experiencing trouble in the adjustments she had to make since they moved. With her mother's co-writer, school, and the society. Apparently, Geoff's father was rather infamous.
Back to the story at hand. There are some things that were explained and others not. I actually though this was a stand alone novel but it isn't. The ending may not be a terrible cliffhanger but it isn't an all out HEA. It makes you wonder if Geoff's older brother was still alive? And what Geoff's mother about someone not being happy if another situation occurs.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read but just some parts was just a bit confusing. I can't wait for the next book and learn more about the secrets that weren't revealed yet.

Byronic is dark, addictive, and not easily put down. I thoroughly enjoyed the reading experience and could not turn the pages fast enough. The novel combines a contemporary world with myth and lore and I couldn't get enough of it.
The characters of Byronic are unique and well-developed. Chelsea is a great protagonist and an interesting voice. She's strong, but not stereotypical, and has a great personality. She always stayed true to her character, although I did feel that she reacted a bit simply to drawing disturbing images that might just be something more than a figment of her imagination. In addition, I loved the parallels between Geoff and Lord Byron. It allowed for a dark and brooding exterior personality that can be seen in a variety of stories to be unique and unforgettable. Of course, in my humble opinion, the real shining stars of the novel were the creatures of legend.
Yep. I'm on Team Boo Hags and haints on this one. Okay, so maybe I shouldn't quite word it as such, but I did love the concept of the creatures. If you're anything like me as a reader, you fall head over heels for a good example of lore and legend. Well, you won't be disappointed in this novel, which not only has supernatural creatures, but slowly introduces them through a different medium art. (Yes, it's as awesome as it sounds.)
Byronic really did not have many slow points at all. I was able to devour the novel in about one sitting. If anything, I would have liked to see a bit more of the past. Not all the questions were answered, sure, but that just allows room for more. (No complaints there.) I really enjoyed the read, and recommend the novel to anyone interested.

The end of this book defiantly made me anxious for the next one... I can't wait! This book is amazing. The story is so well developed and unpredictable; it left me sitting on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next.
The MC, Chelsea, is a very interesting character. She's always been kind of a loner (which I can relate to), and her family is not exactly on the "normal" side of things. She's an artist, and I found it fascinating to see things through her eyes.
Then there's Geoff. At first, I was a little sceptic of his character. He is very standoffish and secretive almost the entire book. He doesn't really open up to Chelsea until towards the end of the book. It wasn't until then that I really started liking him.
As for the whole story, I like the paranormal, supernatural aspect of this book. It's a little different than what I'm used to, but I really enjoyed it.
There are a couple things that I don't particularly like about this book. One is Chelsea and Geoff's first kiss. There's only one word to describe it anticlimactic. I don't want to spoil anything, but I was just really surprised when it happened. It left me thinking, "Did that really just happen? Did I miss something??" It just felt off and kind of out of place, and I was really disappointed that I waited the entire book for such a meager kiss.
The other is the cover and the title. First off, the cover looks like a guy walking down a dock. The dock part kinda makes sense because they live near the ocean, but why is there a man? The book is from the POV of a young girl, so it doesn't make any sense for a boy to be on the cover. As for the title, "Byronic" refers to Geoff's personality. While Geoff is an important part of the story, the story isn't centered around him. It's about Chelsea. I just find it weird that both the cover and the title are so misleading, as they indicate the story is about Geoff.
Excluding these minor problems, I found this book extremely entertaining a definitely worth the read. If you liked "The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer", then I would recommend this book to you!
The twists and turns in this mystery kept me guessing, and the characters are colorful and endearing. This story is beautifully woven into the history of the place, and made me want to learn more about the people and the history. I'm ready for more of this unique story.
This was an amazing glimpse into the past and how lives were changed in the low country; the legends, the superstitions, the bonds that formed to preserve a way of life that otherwise would have been blotted out forever!
